Braintree NHS helps so many people even during an average year. Thanks to COVID-19, Braintree NHS have had to help even more people. Therefore, it is little wonder that many more people are considering leaving Braintree NHS money under their Wills. Laura Richardson explains how people like you can leave local NHS like Braintree NHS an inheritance . . .
A legacy in your Will could make a huge difference to an NHS charitable Trust. You may wish to donate to a local NHS charity such as Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity, East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust, WJC birthing unit in Braintree, or Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust which includes the hospitals at Southend, Broomfield, and Basildon.
Once you have chosen the particular charitable NHS fund that you would like to donate to, you will also need to decide whether you wish to donate to the total charity, or whether you wish to donate to a particular hospital, a particular ward or whether you would like your donation to benefit a certain health care specialty such as cardiology, oncology or maternity. If you would like to make a more specific donation, it is advisable to discuss this with your Will writing specialist who will be able to contact the relevant charitable trust administrators to ensure that your donation will be directed according to your wishes. Your Will writing specialist should also be able to discuss what kind of benefits your donation could have, including purchasing or maintaining equipment, benefitting the wellbeing of staff and patients, educational resources, as well as financial support for volunteer-run services.
If you would like to leave a gift to the NHS within your Will, you have several options to choose from:
- Pecuniary bequest. This is a specific amount of money.
- Residuary bequest. This donates the ‘left-over’ portion of your Estate after all specified gifts have been distributed.
- Specific gift. This is usually a valuable asset such as a piece of jewelry, or art.
A Reversionary gift. This is a more complex form of bequest that involves an asset being held by a trust with any income generated being donated to the charity of your choice. This type of setup if often used for investments or property that generates an income.
