Client Review – What does writing your Will with us? We recently asked one of our clients to provide us with a client review of our Will writing process and we received this lovely account of how easy it is to get your Will written with Andrew Douglas Wills and Legal Services . . .

Following a recent financial change, my husband and I decided to make our Wills. With three young children and a busy weekly routine, writing our Wills had been a neglected task. We had previously discussed our intentions for our Wills but without creating a valid Will we knew that our intentions were not legally protected and we wanted to protect our children, and ensure that our family home and possessions passed down as we desired.

Step 1: We contacted Andrew Douglas Wills and Legal Services and received a prompt reply from Andrew Douglas in order to arrange a free initial consultation to discuss our needs and requests for our Wills.

Step 2: The initial consultation was conveniently held the following week at our Braintree home. Making a Will can seem daunting and perhaps morbid. However, Andrew put us at ease, explaining that it was basically a case of answering (mainly financial) questions, compiled by him to cover the necessary information in the simplest way. Andrew maintained a professional but friendly demeanour throughout our consultation, showing appropriate sensitivity when requesting details regarding our finances and preferences for our funerals. This particular topic can be unpleasant as it involves planning for the end of your life in specific detail. However, we felt comfortable discussing this with Andrew. This meeting covered a great deal of information, dealt with our queries, and detailed our wishes for our Wills in the short space of just one hour, although at no time did Andrew rush us, or shy away from answering our questions at length. Following this meeting, Andrew informed us that we would receive our draft Wills within the following 7 days, and we would be able to review the drafts at our leisure and make queries or amendments as needed.

Step 3: Having received our draft Wills, we wished to make one amendment, which Andrew agreed was admissible, and following this, we then received our Wills in order for signing. It is necessary to ensure that the Wills are signed in the presence of witnesses, who must be unrelated to you, but that know you personally or professionally. This is an extremely important task, as without being properly signed and witnessed, the Wills would not be valid.

Step 4: Once witnessed, our Wills were valid. Andrew provided us each with our original Will together with a copy. The final step was ensuring safe storage of our original Wills, as well as providing a copy to our chosen Executor and Trustee for safekeeping.

In summary, it was a pleasure to be asked to produce this client review for Andrew Douglas Wills and Legal Services because our experience of having our Wills drawn up was sso imple and efficient. The information we received was detailed but straightforward, and the service we received was personal and attentive.
