How to include digitally stored items within your Will in Halstead.
In this digital age it is no longer necessary to print out photographs in order to view them! Nowadays
most cameras, mobile phones and tablets are equipped with the technology to digitally upload
photographs directly onto a computer in order to then view, edit and store them. Photographs are
an important record of many life events and as such many people like to include special photographs
to be passed down to their family or loved ones within their Will. Most people are aware that
personal items such as photo albums or framed pictures can be included within your Will by simply
describing the item and recording the beneficiary that you wish to receive the item. However, what
about photographs that are stored digitally?
Computer stored images and videos
Many people store their photographs as digital images on their computer or tablet. In this case, in
order to bequeath these images to a certain beneficiary, the specific images should be described in
terms of file names and location, in order that they can be easily located. It may be the case that you
wish to bequeath your digitally stored photographs to more than one person and the benefit of
bequeathing digitally stored images is that you can specify that each beneficiary should receive a
copy of your chosen images. Should you wish to, you could simply bequeath your computer or tablet
to a beneficiary and state that you wish to include the computer along with the stored contents.
Images stored virtually
In terms of images that are stored virtually, such as images or videos stored on the Cloud, it is
important to ensure that you leave specific details of these so that they can be accessed by your
Executor. Storing images virtually can be extremely useful, but often it is impossible to track down
media items stored digitally if you do not specifically include them within your Will.
