Invitations to a funeral in Coggeshall
Traditionally, an invitation to a funeral is given in person or over the telephone. However, it is now
common to receive an email, or even a notification via social media informing of the funeral
arrangements for the deceased. Usually the relatives of the deceased will request that the invitation
is then passed on to others who may wish to attend. A more formal announcement is often placed in
a local newspaper. However, it is now possible to buy formal invitation cards to be sent out to the
family and friends of the deceased. Whilst unusual, it is one way in which to more formally inform
people of the funeral arrangements.
Usually after a funeral, the mourners are invited to a wake afterwards at which it is customary to
provide some refreshments. Knowing how many people are going to attend a wake is often
extremely difficult to predict and this can make it complicated in terms of catering. One of the
advantages to sending an invitation card, it that it can request an RSVP which would give a more
accurate idea of how many people will be attending and therefore may make it easier to plan for the
catering at a wake. However, it is logistically unlikely that invitations could be sent to each and every
person who would wish to attend and therefore unless a private wake by invitation only is
requested, many more people may well show up on the day.
Another reason to consider sending a formal invitation to a funeral is to provide mourners with a
keepsake, however, it is customary to provide an Order of Service at a traditional funeral service,
which may arguably serve better as a keepsake as it will usually include any hymns or readings that
the deceased may have requested.
When it comes to planning the funeral of a loved one, or planning in advance for your own funeral,
you may wish to consider sending out formal funeral invitation cards. However, whether you would
choose to send out funeral invitations or not, if you would like any further information regarding
making advance plans for your own funeral, contact Andrew Douglas Wills and Legal Services. It is
important to note that whilst you can make requests of family members or friends regarding the
funeral that you would like, there is no legal obligation for them to carry out your wishes once you
are gone. Therefore, one way to ensure that you will receive your funeral in the way that you would
like it is to arrange a Pre-Paid Funeral Plan.
With a Pre-Paid Funeral Plan you can make all of the
necessary decisions regarding your funeral and wake and as these are paid for in advance, you will
receive the exact funeral that you have planned. Andrew Douglas Wills and Legal Services offer a
free initial consultation, at which we can discuss your Pre-Paid Funeral Plan and answer any queries
you may have. Whether in Coggeshall or the surrounding areas of Essex, call today to see how
