Here at Andrew Douglas Wills and Legal Services, we occasionally come across interesting cases which may help people like you to complete their Wills in Essex . . .
A widow who served divorce papers two years ago has challenged the Will which left her £36,000 out of her husband’s £12 million estate in the High Court.
In brief, the facts of this case concerned one Nigel Vindis. At the time of his passing in 2013, Mr Vindis owned nationwide car dealership Vindis Group. However, whilst Mr Vindis had a Will leaving their two adult children most of his estate, Mr Vindis’ bereaved wife (who actually left him 2 years prior to his death) is now contesting the Will. This is because she argues that if their divorce had been finalised before Mr Vindis died then half of his estate would have been hers.
Experts believe Mrs Vindis has a good chance of winning what would be the largest ever award by an English judge in such cases. Consequently, this new precedent could impact upon the writing of Wills in Essex and throughout England and Wales.
Therefore, if you are going through a divorce you need to think about writing or rewriting your Will in Essex.
